Step 1: Collect the recipe ingredients.

Step 2: Heat oil in a cooking pot. Add cumin seeds and other whole spices. Saute for a few seconds.

Step 3: Add rinsed rice and saute for 1-2 minutes.

Step 4: Add salt and water. Cook uncovered for 8-10 minutes.

Step 5: Cover the pot with a lid leaving a small space open. Cook like this for 3-4 minutes on low heat.

Step 6: Tightly cover the pot with the lid. Cook covered for 2-3 minutes.

Step 7: Turn off the heat but don't remove the lid for 5 minutes.
