What's needed to make banana chia pudding?

To make chia banana pudding you will need 4 ingredients which are shown below:

Ingredients for banana chia pudding, labelled.
Ingredients required for banana chia pudding recipe.

Ingredient notes

  • Banana: Take a ripe or over ripe banana to make chia pudding. Riper the better as they are sweeter and get mashed very easily. Ripe bananas are sweet enough to give complete sweetness to this pudding and you don't need to add any extra sweetener. However, if you prefer a sweeter chia pudding, you can add any sweetener of your choice.
  • Coconut milk: I have used coconut milk but you can use any other type of milk too.
  • Chia seeds: Use a fresh stock of chia seeds. Old seeds sometimes don't soak the liquid properly and make a runny pudding.
  • Vanilla extract: Optional but recommended.

How to make (step by step process)?

How to serve?

Chia pudding tastes best if served chilled but you can also serve it at room temperature.

My favorite way of enjoying it is with some caramelized bananas on top.

You can try the following toppings too:

  • Chopped nuts and dried fruits.
  • Chopped fresh fruits
  • Plain banana slices
  • Granola
  • Chocolate syrup
  • Honey, maple syrup, or agave syrup
  • Peanut butter

How to store?

Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days. If you feel that it has become too thick for your liking after storing, add more milk and stir to adjust the consistency.

Recipe tips and tricks

  • Use an overripe banana to make this recipe.
  • For me, the sweetness of bananas is enough in this dish. However, if you want to make it sweeter add any sweetener of your choice.
  • You can also add chopped walnuts and ground cinnamon to this pudding.
  • Use a fresh batch of chia seeds for making chia pudding. Old chia seeds don't absorb liquid properly.
  • For best result, stir the pudding again after an hour of refrigerating and then keep it back in the fridge.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a frozen banana in this recipe?
