What goes in an apple orange smoothie?

To make this apple smoothie with oranges, you will need the ingredients shown below:

Ingredients for apple orange smoothie, labelled.

Ingredient notes

  • Frozen apples: Use a sweet variety of apples in this smoothie. If you wish you can use peeled frozen apples.
  • Orange: Any variety of oranges can be used. I prefer sweet smoothies so always use a sweet variety of oranges. If you don't mind a slight sourness in your smoothie, you can add sour oranges too.
  • Orange juice: Homemade or store-bought both are fine. Use the juice without added sugar. You can also add some apple juice to this smoothie.
  • Agave syrup: Feel free to add any sweetener of your choice. If your apples and oranges are sweet enough, you may skip adding additional sweetener.

How to make (Step by step process)?

Serving tips

Make this orange smoothie only when you are planning to enjoy it. Once the frozen apples melt, the smoothie will become more liquidy and won't taste as refreshing as it tastes when consumed immediately.

You can serve it in a glass or mason jar with a straw.

If you want to enjoy a smoothie on the go, just transfer it to a jar with a lid and carry it along with you.

If you want to use this smoothie in a smoothie bowl, make it thicker. You can add ripe banana or Greek yogurt for that.

Recipe tips and tricks

  1. Peel the apples before freezing if you don't want them in the smoothie.
  2. There is no need to remove the complete pith from the orange. Remove only the ones that are too thick.
  3. Don't miss to remove the seeds from the fruits.
  4. If you don't have frozen apples, use unfrozen ones and add ice cubes while blending.
  5. You may add frozen bananas for extra creaminess.
  6. Yogurt can also be added to make the smoothie creamier. However, if using yogurt adjust the quantity of other ingredients to get the desired consistency.
  7. Adding the sweetener is optional. You may adjust the amount of sweetener depending upon your taste preference and also the sweetness of the fruits you are using.

How to freeze apples?

To freeze the apples, cut them into cubes and remove the seeds. You may also peel them if you want.

Spread the apple cubes in a single layer on a baking tray and freeze for 3-4 hours. Once frozen, transfer the apple cubes to a zip lock bag or freezer-safe containers. Put back in the freezer and use for 4-5 months.

Frequently asked questions
