French Carrot Salad is a tasty and easy salad recipe. The simple combination of crunchy carrots, mustard, olive oil, and lemon juice, makes it irresistible.

The most frequently shared category of recipes on my blog is of salads. The reason is that I love having different types of salads and make them quite frequently.

Though every cuisine has many different salad recipes, my favorite salads are from the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean regions as I feel that they have the most refreshing and flavorful salads.

So, most of the salads on this blog like Beets salad with Feta, Egyptian Farro Salad, Balela, are from these regions.

However, today I am sharing a very tasty and easy to make classic salad recipe from France- French Carrot Salad.
While writing this post I realized that it’s my first French recipe on this blog. I need to try more French recipes in my kitchen.
The simplicity of this recipe makes it hard to believe that it’s a French dish as French cuisine is considered very fancy something which only celebrity chefs or French mothers can cook properly.

I tasted it for the first time a few months ago in a restaurant and loved it before even taking the first bite. The reason was it’s vibrant and appealing color.

And, after the first bite, it became one of my favorite salad recipes. One of the main reasons for that was mustard. I love mustard or anything that tastes similar to it like wasabi.
Generally, anything that has wasabi or mustard in it easily makes it to my list of favorite dishes.

Dressing of French carrot salad

I love the dressing of French carrot salad and have now started using it in other salads too. The main ingredients of this classic French salad dressing are:

  • Mustard
  • Honey (vegans may use maple syrup)
  • Olive oil
  • Lemon juice
  • Parsley
  • Black pepper powder

The kick of mustard goes really well with the sweetness of carrots, honey and tartness of lemon juice. Olive oil blends everything very nicely. Parsley and pepper make it more flavorful.

The only effort required in making this salad is in grating the carrots. However, if you use a food processor that step will also take only a few minutes.

French Carrot Salad

French Carrot Salad is a very tasty, easy to make and nutritious salad. The simple combination of crunchy carrots, mustard, olive oil, lemon juice, and herbs make it so delicious that it becomes irresistible.

Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups grated carrot
  • 1 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 1.5 teaspoon honey/ maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • ¼ cup chopped parsley
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Salt as per taste

Instructions

  • In a large bowl mix lemon juice, olive oil, mustard, honey, pepper, and salt.
  • Add grated carrot and parsley. Toss, check and adjust the seasoning. Serve.

Notes

  • Adjust the quantity of honey depending upon the sweetness of honey.
  • Vegans may use maple syrup or agave syrup instead of honey.
  • You can also use thin carrot juliennes.
